The Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) is an interactive, immersion experience that gives participants a glimpse into the structural barriers facing individuals living on low-income. In order to most effectively utilize this tool, Missouri CAN encourages all CAPS kit users to invest in the Poverty Simulation Facilitator Training.* During the first day of this event, all participants will experience the Poverty Simulation as family members. Then on day two, participants will gain the skills necessary to plan, promote, direct, and facilitate a Poverty Simulation in their own community.

Event Registration: 

Please note that all attendees for the Poverty Simulation training need to register for the event through this online form. MCAN is unable to accept event registration via mail or phone. The training has a maximum capacity of 80 participants, and it has historically filled to capacity very quickly. Click the button above and fill out the fields as prompted to secure your spot today! After registration is complete, you will receive an email to confirm. Registration deadline is July 13, 2018.

The registration fee covers all training materials and lunch on August 3. You can pay by credit card online, or you choose the “pay later” option during checkout in order to pay by check or PO. POs can be emailed to povertysimulation@communityaction.org, and checks can be mailed to Missouri CAN, 2014 William St. Jefferson City, MO 65109. Please note that if you chose to pay offline, the payment deadline is July 13, 2018. If Missouri CAN does not receive your payment by July 13, your spot may be offered to someone on the waiting list.

CAPS Facilitator Training Registration: $410

Register by June 15 for a $50 early-bird discount: $360

Cancellation Policy:

All cancellations must be in writing, and there will be a $50 cancellation fee for ALL registrations cancelled after July 13, 2018. The cancellation fee is waived if there is a substitution.

Attention Missouri Community Action Agency Employees:

If you are a current employee of a Missouri Community Action Agency, there is no cost for this training if you register before the early-bird deadline of June 15, 2018. All MO CAA staff that register after June 15 will incur a $50 registration fee. In order to receive this discount, please sign into your individual NEON account prior to registering. Please note that any MO CAA registrant who cancels after July 13, 2018 or does not show up on the day of the training will incur a $50 cancellation fee.

Hotel Reservations:

A block of rooms has been reserved for the nights of August 1-2, 2018 at the University Plaza Hotel in Springfield, MO at a special room rate of $104 per night plus tax. To secure a room at this discounted rate, please make your reservations before July 2, the hotel reservation deadline. Click here to access University Plaza's online booking system. Transportation:

The University Plaza Hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport for all guests. To secure your ride, you can call the hotel ahead of time to provide your flight itinerary information.
