“Break your mirrors! Yes indeed—shatter the glass. In our society that is so self-absorbed, begin to look less at yourself and more at each other. Learn more about the face of your neighbor and less about your own.”  Sargent Shriver, the founder of Community Action, gave this call to action during his remarks at  Yale’s College Class Day 25 years ago. The 2019 Missouri Community Action Network Annual Conference heeds Shriver’s call to go beyond the surface by extending compassion to our neighbors and service to our communities in active and intentional ways. 

We have an exciting slate of content geared toward breaking our mirrors—workshops about agency and board engagement, sessions highlighting tools and projects with community impact, and two incredible keynote speakers: Doug Luffborough and Mark Shriver. This conference is a great opportunity to network with community partners and Community Action staff as well as reignite the passion for serving that is at the core of Community Action. CONFERENCE DATE
May 21-23, 2019 

The conference is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21 and will close on Thursday, May 23 by 12:00 p.m. This year, the conference will be held at Hilton Kansas City Airport. In addition, we are offering two pre-conference sessions on Tuesday, May 21 at 8:30 a.m. at no additional cost:

- Best Practices for Effective Board/Agency Relationships
- Creating a Culture of Highly Engaged Teams

LODGING
Sleeping rooms are available at a rate of $112 per night. The deadline for hotel reservations is April 30, 2019. After this date, reservations will be accepted on a space-available basis only, however we cannot guarantee the conference room rate will be honored.

- Pre-Conference Sessions: No additional cost

- Full Conference: $385 Include pre-conference sessions and awards luncheon

- Tuesday Awards Luncheon: $45 Tuesday lunch only

- Wednesday: $190 Includes keynote and lunch

Registration Deadline:  May 6, 2019

Cancellation and late fee policy:  Registrations after 5/6/19 will be accepted but will incure a $50 late fee.  Refunds for cancellations, less a $50 cancellation fee, are available if submitted no later than 5/13/19.  No refunds for cancellations will be given after 5/13/19.  All cancellations must be submitted via email to registrar@communityaction.org. Substitutions are encouraged.

To support speakers and scholarships for this conference, federal funds provide approximately 3.1% of $685,000 received from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) provided by the Missouri Department of Social Services, Family Support Division, as well as 13.4% of $89,400 received from the Office of Community Services through the 7th Regional Performance Innovative Consortia.
